SOCIAL ACTION
SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE MISSION STATEMENT
Reflecting Jewish values and traditions, TBI's Social Action Committee strives to promote social justice through education, community awareness and hands-on projects that support at-risk groups.
CURRENT PROJECTS:
• Second Chance Last Opportunity, a community grassroots organization in Sarasota that seeks to educate and empower the underserved. We support SCLO through collection of food and basic necessities and fundraising.
• Turning Points, a not -for- profit organization in Bradenton that strives to prevent and reduce homelessness. SAC will assist by collecting clothing.
• Presentations about social justice issues to our Temple members and the larger community.
• Future projects to be determined!
THE SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE (SAC) IS PROUD TO SUPPORT THE FOLLOWING GOALS:
-
Raising consciousness among our congregation members.
-
Offering congregation members a menu of projects and programs for their action and support including activities developed at Temple Beth Israel and others originated in the broader community.
-
Building bridges between Judaism and different faiths in order to work toward social justice
-
Working toward the incorporation of Tikkun Olam values and activities as a religious expression by the Temple Beth Israel community
