Our Religious Leadership
Rabbi
Our current rabbi, Stephen L. Sniderman joined us in 2016 from Cumberland, Maryland, where he served as rabbi of B'er Chayim since 2003. Born in Toronto, Rabbi Sniderman is a graduate of York University, Toronto, and graduate student in European History at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. He then studied at the Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem and in Cincinnati and was ordained in 1975. In three communities in which he led the congregation, Rabbi Sniderman has been president of the local clergy associations. He has been involved in interfaith studies, discussions, and served on the board of several community organizations.
“I am particularly interested in area where cultures intersect with Jewish history. To be part of a congregation that is as warm and rich culturally as Temple Beth Israel is a dream come true.” - Rabbi Stephen L. Sniderman
Rabbi Emeritus
Rabbi Michael B. Eisenstat became Beth Israel's first full-time spiritual leader in 1997, a position he occupied for the next 11 years. He energized religious observance, expanded the congregation's adult education offerings, and spearheaded local interfaith efforts. The congregation’s Rabbi Michael B. Eisenstat Miniversity of Judaism is named as in his honor.
